JOB PURPOSE

The Manufacturing Assistant Manager supports the Factory Manager in overseeing daily production operations to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on time, and in compliance with quality standards. This role contributes to achieving production targets by supervising teams, optimizing processes, and coordinating with cross-functional departments. The Manufacturing Assistant Manager also plays a key role in promoting continuous improvement, cost reduction, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork within the manufacturing environment.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

1. Production Planning & Control

• Assist the Factory Manager in developing and executing production plans according to demand forecasts and capacity.

• Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are achieved in terms of quantity, quality, cost, and delivery.

• Monitor workflow across production lines and adjust schedules in case of machine breakdowns, delays, or material shortages.

• Support the implementation of production planning tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

2. Operations Supervision

• Supervise day-to-day shop floor operations, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Coordinate resources (manpower, machinery, raw materials) to maximize efficiency.

• Ensure proper utilization of equipment and follow up on preventive and corrective maintenance.

• Guarantee product traceability and adherence to manufacturing specifications.

3. Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)

• Enforce workplace safety rules and promote a “zero accident” culture.

• Ensure compliance with ISO, IATF, HACCP, or other relevant industry standards.

• Work with quality teams to investigate non-conformities, implement corrective/preventive actions, and reduce defect rates.

• Participate in risk assessments and contribute to environmental sustainability initiatives.

4. Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

• Track production KPIs such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), scrap rate, downtime, and productivity.

• Analyze deviations and drive problem-solving initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma tools.

• Participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, 5S, SMED, TPM).

• Recommend process optimization to reduce costs, improve cycle times, and increase efficiency.

5. Team Management & Development

• Supervise and support team leaders, supervisors, and production staff.

• Set clear performance objectives and conduct regular evaluations.

• Identify skills gaps, propose training programs, and mentor team members.

• Foster employee engagement and build a collaborative, high-performance culture.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Liaise with the supply chain team to ensure material availability and inventory optimization.

• Collaborate with maintenance to schedule and prioritize equipment interventions.

• Coordinate with the quality department to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

• Provide input to engineering and R&D teams on product and process improvements.

7. Reporting & Cost Management

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on production performance, downtime, and productivity.

• Support the Manufacturing Manager in managing production budgets and controlling costs.

• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.

• Provide recommendations for investment in equipment, technology, and workforce.

8.AM Pillar Leadership & Management

• Lead the implementation & management of the AM Pillar in the Unilever Manufacturing System (UMS).

Experiences & Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Production Management, or a related field.

• Additional certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Project Management are an advantage.

Professional Experience

• 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing or production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant management role.

• Proven track record in managing shop floor operations in a high-volume or continuous production environment.

• Experience working in an ISO-certified or IATF-certified environment (automotive, aerospace, FMCG, or similar).

• Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma projects.

• Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) for production planning and reporting.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of production processes, equipment, and industrial best practices.

• Ability to monitor and interpret manufacturing KPIs (OEE, scrap rate, downtime, cycle time).

• Proficiency in using problem-solving tools (FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, Pareto, Fishbone diagrams).

• Good understanding of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) standards.

• Strong computer literacy: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.

Soft Skills

• Strong leadership and team management abilities with a focus on people development.

• Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.

• Results-oriented, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments.

• Ability to manage stress, prioritize tasks, and make decisions under pressure.

Languages

• Fluency in English (written and spoken).

• French or other languages are an advantage, depending on the location and company.
