JOB PURPOSE
The Global Value Channel (VC) is among the fastest‑growing retail channels and plays an important role across our business due to its scale and strategic potential. To achieve our channel ambition, it is critical that that we continue to deliver sustainable growth ahead of the rest of the business, and with Europe’s two biggest leading value retailers.
Within the Global Customer Development (CD) VC team, you will be at the centre of where the Global CD strategy is defined and will be responsible for delivering long term results which shape the trajectory of our business.
Our ambition is to support our local markets / Business Units (BU) to deliver both internal & external incremental value by delivering CD’s Future-Fit priorities through strategic partnership with our global customers.
JOB SUMMARY
The Junior Business Development Manager (Jr. BDM) will play a critical role in supporting the Global VC team in driving business growth and achieving strategic goals. This individual will be responsible for; (1) managing and supporting on various projects, (2) analysing data to support in-year performance management across EU markets, (3) negotiating externally with customers on smaller country contracts, and assisting on bigger country negotiations, (4) owning contract management tasks, (5) and providing essential team support for internal/external stakeholder management, market engagement, and the Global VC community events.
The ideal candidate is meticulous with details, takes the initiative proactively, tenacious in completing tasks/achieving their OKR’s (i.e. can-do attitude), possesses strong communication and organisational skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Support / Management
The Global VC Team have numerous projects to manage and deliver at a central level. A successful candidate would need to contribute to these projects by:
- Assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring the execution of business development projects within the Value Channel.
- Coordinate with BDMs and other internal stakeholders to ensure projects are on time and within scope.
- Drive Design for Channel (D4C) and Design for Retailer (D4R) projects, supporting the team’s Customer Strategy & Planning Manager (CSP).
- Track project progress and prepare reports/presentations for stakeholders.
2. Data Analysis & Performance Management
- Analysing market and performance data from both internal and external data sources and converting this intelligence into value adding BU/market actions.
- Diligent with detail when gathering and analysing data to spot mistakes and understand market nuances.
- Preparing presentations as required by the team.
3. External Negotiations
- Assist in preparing for and participating in negotiations with customers as required.
- Work with local Customer Business Development (CBD) & CSP teams to understand and set market priorities to agree the right business mandates and timelines, enabling quick and successful deals.
- Negotiating externally with customers on smaller country contracts.
- Assisting BDMs where required on the bigger BG-led countries for negotiations.
4. Contract Management
An essential part of the role will be a comprehensive understanding of the contracts agreed or in progress to ensure continuity in our customer approach, this is done by:
- Managing and maintaining contract documentation, ensuring all agreements are up-to-date and compliant with company policies.
- Supporting with the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of contracts and agreements with external partners.
- Working with legal and compliance teams to address any contract-related issues.
5. Stakeholder management / VC Community support
- Support category & Business Group (BG) reviews to unlock business opportunities.
- Support with the preparation for retailer engagements/meetings.
- Help with planning and organisation of events including the Global VC Summit, Performance Business Reviews, or team events.
- Ad-hoc administrative tasks to support the team
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- At least 1 year of experience in business development, account management, category management, or a related role.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a high-performing team.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on detail accuracy.
- Ability to create and present decks to senior stakeholders – both internal & external.
- Diagnostic/critical thinking to proactively challenge the status quo for business improvements.
- Excellent communication skills – both written & verbal.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Experience in negotiations is a plus.
- Fluency in English is a must.
