Senior Scientist - Analytical Chemistry (WL-1C)
Background & Purpose of the Job
Analytical Chemistry is a critical function within the Science & Technology Platform of the Beauty & Wellbeing R&D organization. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for driving analytical and measurement science capability, developing and applying advanced analytical and measurement methods, and ensuring the delivery of high-impact analytical solutions. This scientist will actively collaborate with formulation scientists to develop usable skin care products underpinned by robust stability, sensory performance, and scalability
What You’ll Do
• Develop, validate, and implement advanced analytical and measurement methods to characterize key formulation ingredients (e.g., skin bioactives) and evaluate their stability in formulations.
• Design and execute experiments to investigate reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and critical process parameters that influence formulation performance and long-term stability.
• Apply advanced analytical and measurement techniques (such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry) for method development, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
• Ensure the generation, interpretation, and reporting of high-quality analytical and measurement data to support product development and innovation.
• Collaborate closely with formulation scientists to deliver consumer products with proven stability, sensory attributes, and scalability.
• Contribute to scientific publications and intellectual property related to advancements in analytical chemistry and measurement science.
• Mentor and guide junior scientists in analytical and measurement best practices, fostering a culture of scientific rigor, continuous learning, and innovation.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Measurement Science, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience (or M.S. with 6+ years).
• Extensive hands-on experience with measurement techniques, including quantitative analysis, calibration, and validation of analytical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry).
• Applied organic chemistry principles to enhance analytical method development and compound characterization.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting measurement protocols for complex formulations and ingredients.
• Proven ability to interpret, report, and ensure the accuracy and precision of measurement data in support of product development and innovation.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to drive multiple analytical and measurement projects in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach to teamwork Drive the advancement of analytical and measurement science capability within S&T Skin care group.
Pay: The pay range for this position is $86,080 to $129,120. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
